Frequently Asked Questions

Gentle, informed answers for families seeking craniosacral care for themselves and their babies.

Please read through these commonly asked questions before calling for your consultation.

What happens at prenatal visits?

Prenatal visits focus on education, monitoring, and relationship-based support. Appointments include physical assessments, discussion of preferences and birth planning, and preparation for both labor and postpartum. Visits are longer than typical OB visits to give time for questions, relationship building education, and hands-on guidance.

What if complications arise or transfer to a hospital is needed?

Safety is always the priority. If your pregnancy or birth becomes higher-risk or if a transfer to a hospital is recommended, we will coordinate care seamlessly and support your family throughout the process. Homebirth midwifery care is collaborative and informed by the latest best practices.

Are homebirth services covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan, however most plans in SC do not cover homebirth. Some health share organizations are more likely to provide reimbursement for homebirth services. Many families are able to submit itemized bills for partial reimbursement, and I can provide guidance on documentation and insurance forms as needed. HSA is accepted at Nurtured Roots.

Do you offer consultations for families unsure about homebirth?

Yes; a consultation allows us to explore your health, values, and birth goals. We can discuss whether homebirth midwifery care is right for your family and answer any questions before committing to a package.

Note about availability

Homebirth spots are limited each year to ensure continuity, presence, and safe care. Early contact is encouraged to reserve your space.

Do you offer home visits?

At this time, home visits are not offered, other than the 37 week home visit. All other visits take place in The Nesting Box (Nurtured Roots' office space).

How long do prenatal visits last?

Typical prenatals last 45–60 minutes, however initial prenatals and postpartum visits may last up to 90 minutes.
